The first delivery of Twiddlemuffs has been presented to Kitwood Ward in the Mental Health Unit on the St. Margaret’s site.
Senior Nurse Joana Boateng welcomed the colourful gifts and thanked all the local knitters who had made them, using left-over wool and material scraps.
Committee member Carol Burrows organised the project and was joined by our Membership Secretary Heather Gotting and members of Epping WI.
The Twiddlemuffs are now in Kitwood Ward, giving colour, calm and care to patients with dementia.
The project has already used up a lot of donated wool and other bright materials. So as well as featuring the completed muffs here, there was also an appeal in local magazine North Weald Village Life. We have already had several offers of more wool and suitable left-over colourful ribbons and buttons – plus more knitters are offering their time and skills.
So the League of Friends’ project has become a community effort for our local hospital. The Friends, Joana and her colleagues on Kitwood Ward are very grateful.
