HOW HAVE tHE FRIENDS SPENT RECENT DONATIONS & FUNDRAISING GIFTS?

Our spring members’ letter to Friends has these news items…

  • The Early Supported Discharge Team on Beech Ward, who help neurological patients towards recovery, asked for funds to pay for equipment for Mirror Box Therapy. This is now being used by patients to improve upper limb recovery after stroke. The therapy team who work on different methods to improve upper limb recovery told us: “By looking in the mirror, the patient observes the reflected image of the unaffected limb  – this strong visual clue can be used to improve performance of the affected limb and electrical stimulation helps to activate the damaged portions of the brain.’ With the help of the Friends’ supporters, £651 was provided to purchase the kit.
  • In addition, over £1,300 has been provided by the Friends for other items of therapeutic programs, which can be used on iPads while patients are in hospital and also when they return home. These aid both physical speech and mental skills for patients on the road to recovery.
  • Beech Ward’s very successful Garden Group received £400 for the new season’s tools and plants.

If you have recently lost family or a dear friend and are planning a funeral, you’re invited to choose our charity for ‘In Memoriam Donations.’

Many local people have had close ties and memories of our local Epping Hospital over the years, either as a patient or part of the medical teams.

Or you may be planning a funeral of a family member who has passed away in the Epping Forest Unit on the St. Margaret’s site.

Please consider suggesting ‘In Memoriam Donations’; these will provide the continuing and special hospital services, which the NHS budget cannot meet. Any help will be much appreciated.
