A team of therapists of the St. Margaret’s Hospital Epping Forest Unit have been working hard to contribute to the cost of a new Day Room.
The plans for this facility were generated in response to the international movement titled: GET UP, GET DRESSED, GET MOVING. This innovation is specially relevant for the Unit’s staff and patients, some of whom have suffered from strokes, who need to get home and back to normality – and enjoy life again.
With the help of a large donation from the Friends of St. Margaret’s, the Day Room is almost ready – with comfortable seating, attractive furnishings and pictures on the walls, books to read and
games to play together, TV to entertain and attractive plants to enhance the environment.
The framed pictures have been specially designed for the project by students from Harlow. As well as the financial help from the League of Friends, the team of therapists are themselves organising events to be rolled out over the next few months.
The first – a Bingo Night – was held recently and made an amazing £2,500. One of the team reported that the evening was ‘absolutely brilliant’ and that ‘everyone had so much fun.’ Prizes were donated by local businesses, and 196 tickets purchased to play Bingo – filling Theydon Village Hall and yielding a total amount of almost £2,500.
The therapists’ efforts will continue with other planned events, including a Cyclothon! This will help towards the total cost of the ‘Get up!’ Day Room, which is primarily funded by the Friends of St. Margaret’s Hospital – including purchase of the new Day Room furnishings.
